Quality Assessment Performance Improvement (QAPI)
A QAPI program is a critical component of healthcare quality management in agencies. Mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and most state health and human services departments, a QAPI program is designed to ensure continuous improvement in the quality of care provided to patients and clients and to enhance the overall performance of the agency.
QAPI services can include:
- Monthly, quarterly, or biannual contracts
- Comprehensive patient record review of sampling of charts
- Data analysis of certified agency reports (CASPER)
- Aggregate mandatory logs of infections, incidents, complaints, and patient surveys
- Education of agency staff on areas of non-compliance with suggestions for improvement
- Action plans and performance improvement plan assistance
- Review of emergency preparedness plan (annually)
- Personnel file audit (bi-annually)
- Review of business operations (annually)
